Logo digitizing
Digitize a logo for embroidery
Logos are what auto-digitizing does best: flat colours, clean edges and few shades. Upload your logo, pick the Logo preset and your machine, and get a stitch file in minutes instead of waiting a day for a digitizing service.

How it works
- Add your picture Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or GIF. Pick what it shows (a pet, a face, a logo, text…) and the settings are tuned for it.
- Pick your machine and hoop Choose your machine and hoop; the design is sized to fit and saved in the format your machine reads.
- Match real threads Every colour is matched to a real spool from your thread brand, with its number. Change any of them.
- Watch it sew, then download See every stitch build up on screen, check the stitch count and time, then download the file.
Common logo sizes
| Placement | Typical width | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Left chest | 75 to 100 mm (3 to 4 in) | Keep text at least 6 mm tall |
| Cap front | 50 to 60 mm tall, up to 115 mm wide | Fewer colours sew better on curved caps |
| Sleeve | 50 to 75 mm (2 to 3 in) | Simplify fine detail |
| Jacket back | 250 to 300 mm (10 to 12 in) | Needs a large hoop or multi-hoop |
| Patch | 75 to 100 mm (3 to 4 in) | Add a satin border in the studio |
Getting a clean logo file
- Upload the largest, sharpest version you have. A PNG with a transparent background is ideal.
- Pick the Logo preset: it keeps edges crisp and colours exact.
- Set the number of colours to the number in the logo, so anti-aliased edges don't become extra threads.
- Small text in a logo is the usual weak spot. If it's under 6 mm tall at your size, retype it with the lettering tool in a satin font, or make the logo bigger.
- Multi-needle machine? Pick it in the studio, and the colours are assigned to needles in order.
Formats for shops and home machines
Commercial multi-needle machines (Tajima, Barudan, Happy, Ricoma, SWF, Melco) read DST. Home machines read their own formats: PES for Brother and Baby Lock, JEF for Janome, VP3 for Husqvarna Viking and Pfaff, EXP for Bernina and XXX for Singer. The zip download has all six and a thread sheet.
Questions
How much does logo digitizing usually cost?
Digitizing services typically charge $10 to $75 per logo depending on size, with a wait of hours to a day (prices seen in October 2026). With InstaEmbroid, previews are free and plans start at $0.
Can I use the file commercially?
Yes. The files you make are yours to sew and sell on products. You need the rights to the logo itself.
Will my logo's small text come out?
Text under about 6 mm tall is hard to sew at any size. Make the logo bigger, or replace the text with the lettering tool's satin fonts, which are built for embroidery.
Is it free?
Previews are free and unlimited, and the Free plan downloads 3 designs a week in every format. New accounts get every feature, the AI photo tools included, free for their first week, with no card needed.
