JPG and PNG to DST

Turn a JPG or PNG into a DST embroidery file

Upload a picture and InstaEmbroid digitizes it into fill, satin and running stitches, sized for your hoop and saved as a .DST for almost every commercial multi-needle machine (Tajima, Barudan, Happy, Ricoma, SWF, Melco) and many home machines. No software to install.

How it works

  1. Add your picture Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or GIF. Bold, flat colours and clear outlines stitch best, and a PNG with a transparent background leaves the background unstitched.
  2. Pick your machine and hoop Choose your machine and hoop and the design is sized to fit, with its stitch speed and format set.
  3. Match real threads Every colour is matched to a real spool from your thread brand, with its number. Change any of them.
  4. Preview and download Watch every stitch sew out on screen, then download the .DST and copy it to your machine.

What is a DST file?

DST is Tajima's format and the closest thing embroidery has to a universal file. Practically every commercial multi-needle machine reads it, and so do many home machines.

DST stores where each colour starts but not the colours themselves, so the machine shows its own default colours. Thread it from the thread sheet the studio gives you, which lists every colour in sewing order.

These machines have their own format but can open a DST as well.

Questions

Can I convert a JPG to DST for free?

Yes. Previews are free and unlimited, and the Free plan includes 3 downloads a week in every format, DST included. New accounts also get every feature free for their first week.

Can I convert a PNG to DST too?

Yes. The studio takes JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or GIF pictures. A PNG with a transparent background is ideal: the background isn't stitched.

Why does my DST open in the wrong colours?

DST files don't store colours, only colour changes. The machine fills in its own defaults; follow the thread sheet to sew the right ones.

Can my home machine read DST?

Many current home machines can, but check your manual. If your machine has its own format, that format keeps the colours, so it's the better choice.
