JPG and PNG to EXP

Turn a JPG or PNG into a EXP embroidery file

Upload a picture and InstaEmbroid digitizes it into fill, satin and running stitches, sized for your hoop and saved as a .EXP for Bernina machines and Melco commercial machines. No software to install.

How it works

  1. Add your picture Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or GIF. Bold, flat colours and clear outlines stitch best, and a PNG with a transparent background leaves the background unstitched.
  2. Pick your machine and hoop Choose your machine and hoop and the design is sized to fit, with its stitch speed and format set.
  3. Match real threads Every colour is matched to a real spool from your thread brand, with its number. Change any of them.
  4. Preview and download Watch every stitch sew out on screen, then download the .EXP and copy it to your machine.

What is a EXP file?

EXP is the stitch format Bernina embroidery machines read directly, and Melco commercial machines use it too.

EXP stores colour changes but not the colours, so the machine shows its own. Thread it from the thread sheet the studio gives you, which lists every colour in sewing order.

These machines have their own format but can open a EXP as well.

Questions

Can I convert a JPG to EXP for free?

Yes. Previews are free and unlimited, and the Free plan includes 3 downloads a week in every format, EXP included. New accounts also get every feature free for their first week.

Can I convert a PNG to EXP too?

Yes. The studio takes JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP or GIF pictures. A PNG with a transparent background is ideal: the background isn't stitched.

Do I need Bernina's software to convert a picture to EXP?

No. InstaEmbroid digitizes the picture and writes the EXP itself; copy it to a USB stick and open it on the machine.

Why doesn't the machine show my thread colours?

EXP files don't carry colours. Follow the thread sheet, which names each thread in order.
